Purpose Statement

To empower men of color through culturally relevant programming, mentorship, and academic support, reducing barriers to success and serving as a scalable model for equitable outcomes in higher education.

The Male Success Initiatives (MSI) at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) represent a groundbreaking approach to addressing equity gaps among men of color in higher education. Through a combination of culturally relevant programming, mentorship, and academic support, MSI has achieved significant outcomes, including high retention rates and enhanced student well-being. By specifically targeting barriers such as financial constraints through scholarships and retreats, MSI demonstrates a tangible impact on reducing the cost of higher education for marginalized students. Moreover, MSI's collaborative model and involvement in statewide initiatives position it as a scalable and replicable intervention within and beyond the CSU system, offering a blueprint for other institutions seeking to address similar challenges and achieve equitable outcomes for men of color in academia.
